MY 5 CURRENT FAVOURITE FASHION PIECES TO INVEST IN THIS SEASON

Hi guys! In most parts of West Africa and Nigeria, the Harmattan is finally upon us! I hope you are faring well wherever you are.

Before we continue, I'd love to know, what is the weather like where you live?

I have come up with a list of some things I feel are good pieces to invest in, which are stuff I will personally be investing in as well. Hopefully you're inspired to get them before their prices hike, as they will definitely make you stand out if paired well.

Let's start.

1. DIY Zulu Inspired Corral Bracelets and Earrings
I first saw this at TFE those guys aren't playing. I can't wait till they launch in November. The sweater weather has this thing with bland dull or neutral colours. Bright accessories can be paired with your coats, sweaters or whatever you have, at least before the cold kicks in in full force. You can either make these yourself or buy them from some artsy bead shop.
Hint: Corral necklaces and bracelets will spice up those sexy turtlenecks.

2. Scarves:

Scarves are good fashion pieces to invest in as we approach the chilly season. In some parts of West Africa, and Nigeria the Harmattan can be very bitter and unforgiving(shoutout to my people in Jos). Knitted ones, wooly ones, satin ones, silk ones, and ankara inspired ones are definitely ones to invest your money in. The silk and satin ones are good investments for your hair. If you live in Lagos, Balogun market is a sure bet to get a good scarf if you're afraid of boutiques and fashion houses. I highly recommend Yaba market though, I get mine from there whenever I'm in Lagos. And, if you live in Enugu, the coal city, and are on a budget old park has A LOT to offer in the evenings.

WHAT CITY ARE YOU? AND WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR SCARVES FROM?

3. Pantyhose Tights/Stockings/Sheer Tights
Black, pastel coloured/nude tones are my absolute favourite. I chattered them before coming Abuja. These are great, and can go with gowns, and skirts when you don't want the cold or Harmattan dust getting to your legs and feet. That Harmattan dust is no joke yo. This fashion piece is good for transition weather. Shout out to all my modest fashion readers as well, this is good inspo for you.
If you love bright colours like Louisa Clark in Me Before You, go for it, you are a fearless one, and I doff my hat to you.

d. Super Comfy Statement Mules or Slippers:
In Nigeria, end of the year (October, November, December) aka Harmattan season is also synonymous with carnival/festive period. A lot of carnivals, weddings, parties, meetups and festivities happen at almost every corner during the weekends. If you plan to attend these/catch up with African friends and family, you already know these will come in handy. Why wait till December when the prices will be absurd before picking up a pair or two? Especially if you know you'd be getting down to some serious moves or two on the dancefloor.

e. Chunky Sweater are the cutest, and very cozy too. My favourite colours are red, black, and blue. I feel these are forgiving colours and will go with almost anything. To see mine(which is a hand me down), click here

  4. Hi Lily,

    Nice brief post!

I also live in Florida and we really barely have a Fall/Winter here, its mostly Summer all of the time. I've been wanting to get into scarves as well, mainly to use them as headwraps. I always thought they look beautiful and seem like a great protective style.

Recently, I did purchase big hoop earrings wrapped in silk scarf fabric with a colorful pattern and I can't wait to wear them though!

    See you next time!
